A dear friend once said to me,
“I envy people that have a gift so bright
you can’t help but see it.”
She wasn’t so much talking about someone specific
As she was trying to explain to me
how she was “just ordinary,”
that she didn’t have a special talent
or a particular gift that distinguished her in any way.
I was stunned when she said this;
As I have always been
blinded by the light that is shining from her.
It is not uncommon for us to
undervalue ourselves and
fail to recognize
the multitude of aptitudes, abilities, and attributes
that lie within us
simply awaiting our own acknowledgment and appreciation.
